There was a time when LGBTQ rights felt like inevitable progress. Just one decade ago, rights consistently expanded. Now, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Democratic Erosion Consortium, and Democracy Without Borders have all identified rising attacks on LGBTQ people and their rights as evidence of democratic backsliding. It’s a global playbook and luckily, one that we can actively fight back against by supporting direct programs, field building, narrative change, and more. LGBTQ rights affect who can get medical care and where and also what opportunities our kids have to grow, learn, and shape their identities. There’s a path forward here for folks funding in health, education, workforce development, democracy, and more.
